The Details Known Regarding the Victims of the Bondi Beach Terror Attack

A minimum of 16 lives lost their lives and in excess of 40 were hurt when attackers fired on a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian police have called a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, authorities have confirmed the number of fatalities is 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Furthermore, 42 people with injuries were transported to the hospital.

The deceased are yet to be publicly named, but investigators think their ages span between 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger

London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.

Reportedly a father-of-five, he served as the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and friends described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative said.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.

She told the events leading up to the attack, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she recalled.

The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having endured immense hardship in their childhood. They had later immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Officially, a senior official said that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the message continued.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was among those killed during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people transported to hospitals, many remain receiving treatment, with several in critical condition. The injured include two police officers who attended the scene.

One of the injured is a bystander who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the gunmen. Described as a local hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Reports indicate he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he described the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also noted the response of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He said he heard “a large number” of shots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I was hit. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
