Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to change things and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
