Shock as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in Johannesburg.

A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old presenter was approached by three individuals, with one opened fire on him before running away.

The reason of the shooting is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Police indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a building close to the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the property overseeing the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, according to reports.

"Authorities believe the victim was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," a police statement confirmed.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a man with dreadlocked hair and clad in what looked like a security uniform opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries across the street.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the assault.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the scene.

Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have have information to come forward.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to find their location," remarked an authority figure.

His family member, Nicole Stock, said the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.

"Words fail me. I don't have words," were her words.
"It is clear he was a voice for many people. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were willing to discuss. This is a profound tragedy."

In a release, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his magnetism, kindness and quick humor, adding that his memory "will live on".
