New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” he added. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police shared surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
